Twelfth Day of Lent

It’s Tuesday, March 3rd, and I’m sick-and-tired of breaking pans and skillets out to make myself a big breakfast – especially since I’m cooking for myself during the week.  I’d like a breakfast sandwich, but those frozen ones leave more to be desired.

Well, what do we have here?  Looks like Susan picked up some Arnold Sandwich Thins.  While they’re not English muffins, I bet they’d make a good breakfast sandwich:

Now just add some egg, cheese, and sausages, and I’ve got one handsome breakfast sandwich!  Screw you, freezer & microwave!

Fifth Day of Lent

After that great weekend of brunches – from a bad-ass steak breakfast burrito to actual real bacon – we couldn’t start the weak with some weak frozen breakfast sandwich or even a yummy drive-through meal.  So we decided to go big and get some breakfast meat which can rival the ol’ cured meat candy:  some Johnsonville Breakfast Sausage Links.

These bad boys bring us back to breakfasts of yore… plump, juice, salty, and savory all in one bite.  How do they do it?  I have no clue… but when bacon isn’t around, I always reach for the Johnsonville breakfast sausage.

I’m sure some of you are asking, “What the hell is that next to the pork?”  Yeah – it’s some fruit leftover from the drinks I made yesterday for National Margarita Day.

Tequila, VEEV, and POM.  What can I say?  I’m multi-talented.

Day 3 – Saturday, March 8th

First of all, I’d like to thank a couple of readers who made me aware of my first Lenten mistake for the year – in my quest to find a replacement for bacon for yesterday’s breakfast, I totally forgot that yesterday was Friday and I that I shouldn’t be eating meat at all. Unfortunately I devoured a few yummy Johnsonville breakfast sausages.  Whoops!  I’m going to have to put a reminder on my calendar to not eat meat on Fridays – it simply felt like just another morning!

Today was a picture-perfect Saturday in South Florida, and we ventured out quite early for a morning on the water before my Florida Gators took on the Kentucky Wildcats for their final game of the regular season.  The Gators won handily, solidifying their #1 ranking into postseason play.

We didn’t have time to make breakfast before heading out on the water, so we ate a couple microwavable breakfast sandwiches before mixing bloody marys at the marina.  So, no time to crave bacon yesterday – I just hope the same goes for Sunday Funday brunch tomorrow!

Day 2 – Friday, March 7th

It’s Friday, and it’s going to be a great day.  The storms from yesterday have passed, it’s beautiful out, and it’s the beginning of a long, big weekend.  So naturally I’m going to need a filling breakfast to get me through the morning until… well, lunch.  But without bacon, what am I going to do for meat?  (Because a meal without meat is like a meal without food.)  So I ventured out to Publix and grabbed a pack of our favorite standby – Johnsonville Fresh Breakfast Sausages. sausage While it’s not bacon, it still has a nice salty satisfying pork flavor – and they’re Susan’s favorite, so brownie points for me.  Speaking of bacon, maybe if I can win one of those Oscar Meyer Bacon Scent Alarm Clock devices, I can pretend there’s bacon at breakfast – after all, smell is a major factor in taste, right? Alright, time to enter the contest again – wish me luck.  More to come….
