While sitting on the couch on a lazy Sunday, I was channel surfing and found an old episode of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives – you know, that TV show on the Food Network with that loud guy with the shockingly light-colored spiked hair and the crazy shades? Anyway, during the show he featured an old favorite of mine, The Whale’s Rib in Deerfield Beach. This gem features fresh seafood, killer sandwiches, and great drinks – and I suddenly was craving their rock shrimp.
If you’ve never had rock shrimp, they are hard and spiny and look like little lobsters. The Whale’s Rib steams them, tosses some Old Bay on them, and serves them with lemon and drawn butter – and they are scrumptious! While you’re there, you might as well get one of their Bloody Marys – they are legendary, served in a celery salt-rimmed glass with a big ol’ shrimp on top!
